In today’s digital age, educators play a crucial role in harnessing the power of digital technologies to enhance learning experiences and prepare students for success in a rapidly evolving digital world. FutureMakers have a long history of providing support to educators, schools and governments in this area, and believe the following are key areas of focus:

1. Fostering Digital Literacy:

  • Recognising the importance of equipping both teachers and students with the digital skills and literacy required to thrive in digital environments.
  • Emphasising the need for curriculum integration of digital literacy across subjects, enabling students to effectively navigate, evaluate, and create digital content.
  • Advocating for ongoing professional development for educators to stay abreast of emerging technologies and pedagogical practices in the digital age.

2. Ensuring Online Safety and Security:

  • Highlighting the importance of exercising caution and wisdom in the use of digital environments to mitigate risks associated with online safety, data security, and digital identity.
  • Emphasising the role of educators in educating students about responsible digital citizenship, ethical behavior, and safe online practices.
  • Advocating for robust cybersecurity measures and policies within educational institutions to safeguard sensitive information and protect digital infrastructure.

3. Promoting Equitable Access to Technology:

  • Stressing the significance of equitable access to robust and secure high-speed internet and digital devices for all students, both at school and at home.
  • Advocating for initiatives to bridge the digital divide and ensure that underserved communities have access to the necessary technology resources for learning.
  • Highlighting the importance of addressing issues of affordability, infrastructure, and digital literacy in achieving equitable access to technology.

4. Cultivating a Digital Mindset:

  • Emphasising the need for educators to adopt a digital mindset that goes beyond simply using technology as a substitute or augmentation for traditional practices.
  • Advocating for the appropriate integration of cloud-based technologies, augmented and virtual realities, and artificial intelligence into educational practices to prepare students for the future workforce.
  • Stressing the importance of fostering creativity, critical thinking, and adaptability in navigating the ever-changing digital landscape.
