I’ve just arrived back from a week-long trek circumnavigating Mt Ruapehu in the centre of the North Island. I was accompanied by Geoff, my tramping companion for 30 years now, and with whom I’ve walked many of the major tracks around NZ. A week without access to the internet, mobile phones and email took a bit of adjustment – but provided some valuable reflection opportunities which I’m sure will surface in future posts 🙂
Here are some photos from the trip (click on them to enlarge)…

Welcome back Derek. So did you miss email? Probably to begin with, but bet you are missing being unreachable now 🙂
Wow, some of those pics look just like Middle-Earth. Seriously, probably get sick of comments like that. Sounds like it was fun. It would be hard to unplug for a week like that, but I imagine the reflection was awesome. One thing as educators is that we are on that hamster wheel all the time. We really need the sit down and think time. Looking forward to future posts.
I know Geoff from Te Kuiti. Small world. As Ruapehu College is one of the schools I work with, I get to enjoy the vistas on a regular basis. The view from the Ruapehu College staff room is one of the best around.
Wow …. there is nothing like going out and enjoying God’s own……aren’t we blessed to live in NZ! Thanks for the cracker pictures Derek.
